George Spillman - Golfing Tips for Beginners

George Spillman is an ex-military man having served with the U.S. Army Rangers based out of Fort Lewis, Washington. After serving with the Army Rangers, he built a successful career in the business world and became the youngest executive to head a department in his workplace. George Spillman is an avid golfer and likes to spend his leisure time on the green. Here are some tips beginner golfers can use.

Grip

If you have never played golf before, the chances are that you will grip the club just like you grip a baseball bat. To get started, you will need to learn how to grip the club correctly. Take the golf club in the palm of your hand that is closest to the hole – your lead hand. Your thumb should run along the grip on the club, going down. Slide your other hand just below your lead hand, and interlock the lead hand’s pointer finger with the back hand’s pinky finger and grasp the club. This will take a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, you will see how easy it is.

Posture

The basics of correct posture include standing in front of the ball, knees slightly bent, your upper body leaning over the ball, and arms in front of you. Spread your feet shoulder width, with the ball positioned in equal distance between your front and back foot. If you are working with a coach, he will work with you till you get the posture right.

Without mastering the grip and posture, your shots will not be accurate, so take the time to practice your grip and posture. George Spillman enjoys playing golf during the weekend.
